Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this for?
Self-Protection Solutions classes are for anyone who would benefit from knowing how to protect themselves--and that means EVERYONE.
I’ve worked with people whose jobs put them in potentially unsafe positions, outdoor sports enthusiasts who want to be safe when they are out enjoying themselves, mothers and fathers who want to know how to protect their kids, incoming college students who want to feel safe on campus and teenagers dealing with bullying in school. I’ve also worked with senior citizens and those with mobility issues.
My goal is to provide you with the tools YOU need to have the best chance of survival if your life is in danger. There is no single cookie-cutter lesson plan because I tailor your customized toolkit to fit with YOUR lifestyle and any specific circumstances you present to me.
Can my child take classes? How old do they need to be?
Yes, I work with young people to show them both the physical skills they need to protect themselves AND mental and non-physical strategies to avoid danger in the first place.
I generally do not take anyone under 16 years old. For those under 16, I will evaluate the situation on case-by-case basis.
What style of martial arts do you use?
I am trained in a variety of martial arts disciplines, to include Small Circle Jujitsu, Krav Maga, and Urban Combatives. I have found that the best self-protection toolkit contains elements from a variety of fighting styles. When I put together your personal self-protection toolkit, I’ll pull from several different types of martial arts to best suit you and your needs. Where are lessons held?
Lessons are mainly held at a martial arts studio at 52 Main Street in Wilmington, Mass. However, I am available to come to your home, if that is more convenient for you. Please call to discuss my coverage area and whether it makes sense for me to travel to you.
Do I need to be in good shape fitness-wise?
No. While these classes could certainly help you improve your level of fitness, the customized self-protection plan I create for you will take into account where your CURRENT fitness level is. Everyone should know how to protect themselves no matter what shape they are in physically. If one of your personal goals is to improve your level of fitness, I can work that into your lesson plan to help you get there.
How much does it cost?
A private, one-hour lesson starts at $100. A semi-private (two people), one-hour lesson is $75 per person. From there, pricing changes per person depending on the number of people taking class, and for certain circumstances including whether I’m traveling to you meet you off-site. Please call for details.
Do I need previous knowledge of self-defense or martial arts?
No. Whether you’ve studied martial arts for years, haven’t studied since you were a kid, or have no experience at all, I will meet you where you are now and will craft your lesson plan to address your needs.
Do you do group lessons?
Yes. If you are interested in taking class with your friends and family, I can certainly accommodate you. I do cap groups at a certain size so that I can address each individual, however. Please call for details and for special pricing.
Can you come to my workplace?
Yes. I have taught classes in corporate and other business environments. Please contact me to discuss your situation and requirements.
